Installing the Exchange Server Archiver OWA Add-in on front-end/back-end Exchange 2003 configurations

When you install the Outlook® Web Access (OWA) Add-in, Exchange Server Archiver provides a transparent interface for your users to access the archived messages.

To use the OWA Add-in with front-end/back-end Exchange servers:

  1. Install the OWA Add-in on both the front-end and back-end Exchange servers.

See Installing the OWA Add-in for details.

  2. Ensure that the front-end Exchange server can connect to the User Archive Access Service.
  3. On the front-end Exchange server, open the following configuration file:

    RedGate.ExchangeArchiver.OutlookWebAccess.Addin2003.Engine2003.dll.conf

By default, this file is located in:

    C:\Program Files\exchsvr\exchweb\RedGate

  4. Change:

    <FrontEnd>0</FrontEnd>

    to:

    <FrontEnd>1</FrontEnd>

  5. Save the file.
  6. For both the front-end and back-end servers, ensure that OWA Web site \bin directory has the appropriate authentication enabled in IIS.

In IIS Manager, navigate to the \bin folder, right-click, and edit the folder properties.

For example, in Exchange 2003, open the Authentication Methods dialog box, and select Integrated Windows authentication and Basic authentication.

    IIS_Authentication.gif

If these options are not selected, you may be prompted for authentication when viewing archived messages using OWA and will be required to include the domain within the authentication user name.

  7. Restart IIS on the front-end Exchange server.

For details on how to do this, refer to the appropriate Microsoft IIS documentation.

You can now use the OWA Add-in.
