Deploying the Exchange Server Archiver Outlook Add-in using Active Directory group policy
This article describes how to deploy the Exchange Server Archiver Outlook Add-in using Active Directory® on Windows Server® 2008 ; however, for Windows Server 2003 the procedure is very similar.
Creating the group policy
To create the group policy, you must use an account that has Domain Administrators privileges or is a member of the Group Policy Creator Owners group.
- Run the Group Policy Management tool.
The Group Policy Management tool is located under Administrative Tools on domain controllers or on client machines that have the Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT) installed.
- Navigate to the Group Policy Objects folder.

- Right-click Group Policy Objects and click New.
- Type a name for the new policy, and click OK.

- Right-click the new policy in the tree view and click Edit.
- Expand Computer Configuration, Policies, Software Settings.

- Right-click Software installation, and then click New, Package.
- In File name, type the name of the network share where the ESA Outlook Add-in installer is located, and click Open.

- Select the ESA Outlook Add-in installer and click Open.

- Select your deployment method; this will depend on your environment and your software installation policies, but for a mandatory installation this is typically Assigned.

- Click OK.
The policy is displayed, and is now ready to assign for deployment. For example:

Assigning the new deployment policy
To assign the new deployment policy to a group of computers:
- In the Group Policy Management tool, right-click the Organisational Unit that contains the computers to receive the deployment, and click Link an Existing GPO.
- Select the new deployment policy, and click OK.

For example:

Depending on your domain topology and replication times, the next time the client computers are restarted, the new Group Policy will apply and the ESA Outlook Add-in software will be installed at start-up.
