We lost the DTS packages (unknown) - I'd like to know if you can use input from a backup file of the MSDB and sync to a server instance?
Next would be sync the server from the backup?
Is there another way to restore DTS -- These were not assigned to a DB - we tried restore of the database but the DTS packages were not with it.

Hello Steve,
I think it depends... I have done this before. A user had sent me a backup of his MSDB and I had restored it to a crash server and was able to analyze all of the DTS packages from the crash server, then use Enterprise Manager to save them as structured storage and import them into other servers.
You could have problems, though, if you use custom tasks which are COM objects that exist as files and are registered on the server. You'd need to locate all of those files and copy them to the new server and register them with regsvr32.exe. _________________ Brian Donahue
