Would it be possible via custom metrics or another way to add an custom alert on batch requests / second. And set the threshold value (just like diskpace high, medium, low)?
we have found that one of our sql boxes will overload above a certain value (suddenly many more transaction due to failing caching system). It would be nice if no matter what is causing the extra load of queries, that we would be alerted by sql monitor that one of the instances is moving into danger zone.

It is possible to create a custom alert for this. However, it is not possible to base this alert on an existing metric that the tool collects by default. Instead a new custom metric has to be created to base the alert on.
This link contains a number custom metrics that users have successfully created in the tool, and they may help you with writing your own.
