This seems to be a known issue. There was something similar a few years ago when adding more than one script on a shared drive - it's logged as bug SE-664.

Method failed with unexpected error code 50

This is what is causing my problem:

Brand new installation. Licensed.

Add Script, and as soon as I do, the above error shows up in the script window, and the script Name has a red x next to it and I can't do anything, except Remove.

Problem is caused by trying to Add/Open any script...even "SELECT @@VERSION", so I know it's not the actual script itself.

Ahhh..... just figured it out.

My scripts are in a folder in "My Documents", but that's actually mapped to a corporate network folder. If I move the scripts locally, they work.

Is this a known issue?

Thanks for your feedback.

This has already been logged as a feature request (SE-657)

I have added your interest in having such a feature.

SQL Prompt in Multi Script - or Multi Script in SSMS!

Would be great if you could add the SQL Prompt features to Multi Script for those who have both products.

Or even better, can you add Multi Script into SSMS so I can run it from there with all the features SSMS has?

Thanks

RE: Feature requests

Hello Dov,
We have existing feature requests open already for 1 and 3 (SE-673, SE-637). I'm unclear on 2 and 4.

If you could clarify, that would be great.

I suspect (4) may already be available from SQL Server (@@DB_NAME, @@SERVERNAME) but I'm not sure what you want to do with the variable.

Feature requests

I am only testing this tool but some features are missing:

1. I run long scripts, I need the execution end time or duration.
2. When executing I want to know what Databases started execution.
3. copy result set with headers
4. It would be great if you can define a parameter (@redgateDB) that at runtime would be replaced with the server.database

Enhancement Requests: 1.1.0.34

The Distribution List shows the instance and database.

Please add the login, say in parentheses:

Code:

DEV.master (sa)

Please make it easier to CHANGE the Authorization for a database in the List, on the main page, instead of having to remove from the list, change the authentication in the tree-list and re-add the DB(s).

Let us color the script background - white is so harsh!

Integrate SQL Prompt somehow.

Thanks. These will make an indispensable tool even better...

RE: Scheduling Multi Script jobs

Really, is it so difficult to add scheduling feature? MultiScript is a fantastic tool but we will have to move away from it since we cannot schedule our scripts and produce saved results on daily basis (outside of business hours). I.e. I have 100+ SQL Servers and I need daily maintenance/backup status report at 6AM, thus by the time when everybody is at the office, DBA has a report which backup failed and what errors we found in error logs. I have no time to view logs manually, neither run the scripts during business hours.

Love the tool so far, but I'm trying to move much of tool set over to PowerShell (from SQL) code. Any chance PowerShell could be added to MultiScript, or perhaps a separate tool?

You could try using our SQL Compare tool to generate a deployment script and deploy to each of your remote servers. There is a command line version of SQL Compare that you can use to create a batch job to do this automatically.

Is there a better way of creating the script for propagating from a master db to several other databases when an update is made? If not, it seems to me that creating the script for this would become very time consuming for the database I am maintaining. It contains a combination of over 500 tables and views.

RE: Create script for copying master database structure

Hi apisano,

Thanks for your post. It sounds like your script that you are specifying in Multiscript is attempting to add a new user object that already exists in the destination SQL Server database. This message is coming from the SQL Server itself as a result of the script.

To get the script working properly, you would need to manually edit the script to remove the entry that is making changes to this particular user object. Also, since this is the master database, this is a system DB, so you will need to be careful about what changes you are rolling into it.

Best Regards,
Steve
