how to set the version of the .NET Framework in Reflector 6?

Hi.
The version of my .NET Reflector is 6.8.2.5. The current version of .NET Framework is 2.0.50727.3623.

Now I need to disamble a class, which exists ONLY in .NET Framework Version 3.5 or 4.0. So I need to set the version of .NET Framework to 3.5 or 4.0 in my .NET Relector tool. But I have not found any place for setting the version of .NET Framework in this tool. How to set the version of the .NET Framework in .NET Reflector 6.8.2.5?

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for getting in touch. Let me deal with this in two parts.

I had a look in our CRM system and, since you bought the .NET Developer Bundle in August last year, which was after the release of .NET Reflector 6 Pro for which you are licensed you are eligible to upgrade to .NET Reflector 7 for free. Please download it directly from http://www.reflector.net/ (.NET Reflector 6.x cannot auto-update to this version - see below). You should be able to activate v7 with your existing serial number, but if you have any problems please contact info@reflector.net and we'll be happy to help you out.

In the more general case, for people who haven't purchased .NET Reflector 6.x Pro, you need to upgrade to .NET Reflector 6.8, which is a free standalone version of Reflector that doesn't expire. In this case disregard the fact that the message says you'll be downloading a trial of v7, just click Yes, and it will in fact download .NET Reflector 6.8.

Cannot upgrade to 6.8

I bought a developer bundle a while ago which included ANTS memory profiler, Performance profiler and Reflector

When I try to open Reflector now I get a message box asking me to pay for version 7, If I say no then Reflector will not open.

What has happened.

Your Reflector is violating my Human Rights. It hurts my eyes. It blinds my sight. It so so so so so BLURRY.

If you care about riding the wave with Microsoft, good for you, but give us a way out of this blinding font display.

PS: Do you use your own software??????!!!!!!

Hi there,

Please open Reflector and click Help > Check for Updates, and you'll be upgraded to version 6.8.2.5, from which registration and activation has been removed.

This should hopefully cure your problem.

When the application loads for the first time the disassembler screen now takes 15-20 seconds to show for the first time. Windows grays the window, adds Not Responding to the title bar and I get the windows wait spinner.

Prior to updating to the 6.8 version, this was immediate. I'm assuming that it has something to registration checking. If I add a windows firewall rule to BLOCK reflector, the disassmbler shows immediately.

Also, I occassional get a Windows exception screen when I quit the program indicating that flash.ocx is missing. Never had that before.

OS : Windows 2008 Server R2 x64 with SP1.

Thanks for the feedback.

You're absolutely right: .NET Reflector does use custom menu and toolbar code, which we're eventually planning to retire. I can only speculate as to why the custom code is there, although I suspect it's because Lutz started developing Reflector some time before the .NET Framework was released into the wild, so it's quite possible that WinForms was either not present, or was incomplete back then.

There are a few other legacies from this era dotted around the UI code as well, which we are gradually replacing.

Hopefully that's informative, if not actually helpful.

bugs: menu system, search not working.

Please use the default Windows menu system, and remove the custom code. It always annoys me slightly each time I click on the menu and wish to browse through them, and the custom code used by NET Reflector forces that it locks to whichever menu you clicked on first. For example, click once on "View", and then scroll the mouse to "Tools", and the "View" menu remains, ignoring your request to view other menus. I don't know why, but little things like this always are very annoying, and I believe it is precisely because it is absolutely ignoring my requests. This is the only program I've ever used in Windows that behaves in this manner, which is how I know the menu system is custom.

Also, not that this bothers me, but the menus show little grips that you normally could grab and drag, and I am not sure why they exist in NET Reflector, since they don't respond at all to my input. So they appear to have functionality that the program doesn't have. This is very strange, and makes me believe that the functionality is meant to be there, but due to some bug, it is not working.

I am running Windows Vista 64-bit edition, if that matters.
Running v6.8.1.3 of NET Reflector.

Also the search feature doesn't appear to work all the time. For example typing "normalize" does not return Vector2.Normalize even when Microsoft.Xna.Framework.Graphics is included in the list, not even if it is selected. I am not sure what's going on, but a search that doesn't return an exact match to a method being typed in removes my confidence that it works well, and I end up manually having to locate the desired result.

I am sad to hear that it is the last free version. That is quite a disappointment, RedGate.

GREAT program by the way. Kudos.
