RE: Perfmon Bad data error

I have the same error:

22 May 2013 1:14 PM	General	Perfmon	Bad data	#Rnv

Perfmon data is missing objects: SQLServer:Access Methods, SQLServer:Buffer Manager, SQLServer:Databases, SQLServer:General Statistics, SQLServer:Latches, SQLServer:Locks, SQLServer:Memory Manager, SQLServer:SQL Statistics. Possible causes include performance counter library corruption, or a 32-bit/64-bit mismatch between Windows and the performance counter provider (e.g. SQL Server).

We are running 64bit 2008 Datacentre and 64 bit SQL Server 2008 RS. When checking perfmon on the machine itself the counters are all there.

If I run Powershell Command:

Code:

Get-Counter -ComputerName server -ListSet "*sql*

I have all the performance monitors listed yet I still get the error, can anyone shed some light for me please.

Cheers.

RE: False Alert - Monitoring error (SQL Server data collection)

Hi,

We do not allow customizing Monitoring error alert because they are important for the SQL Monitor to work as expected.

I would suggest that you investigate that why you are getting so many Monitoring error alerts. These alerts come up when any data collection fails. It is worth looking at the Base Monitor log files to see what data collection is failing and then investigating why?

Also, it is worth posting questions in SQL Monitor 3 forum and not SQL Monitor 2 forum. SQL Monitor 3 forum is active now and we would be responding much qucikly to question in that forum.

Thanks,
I still don't seem to be able to find the functionality to customize alerts for timeouts (as indicated in this thread to be introduced in the next version). This currently means that a regular daily task is to clear down hundreds of false alerts generated from sqlmonitor. Am I missing something or can we still not change the alert timeout for this event? We are running version 3.

RE: Operation on handle \\server\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE failed

Hi hespinoza,

Thanks for your post. It looks like there could be some issues with remote registry access. From the machine that is running the SQL Monitor Base Monitor service you can log in with the new account you changed to, and run through the following data collection tests:

http://www.red-gate.com/supportcenter/content/SQL_Monitor/help/3.2/SM_Testing_data_collection

It could be this account does not have proper rights to the remote registry. Hope this helps.

Best Regards,

We recently change the account our sql red gate service is running under and after that change we are having problems starting the monitoring of our servers. Below is the entry of our log file that gets written when we try to reestablish the connection to the servers
Any ideas of what this would possible be?
RE: DNS server

Hi,

Are you looking for IP address of Base Monitor machine? If this is the case then go to the machine where you have installed Web server and then navigate to this or equivalent location C:\ProgramData\Red Gate\SQL Monitor 3. There should be a file here called BaseLocation. This file will have the name or IP of the base monitor machine along with the port number.

Thanks,
RE: polling frequency

Hi Nach,

It varies for each counter. Some of counters like CPU are polled every 15 sec, others such as disk I think are polled every 1/2 hour whereas Index fragmentation is checked once a week.

As far as load on Monitored database is concerned, ideally you shouldn't notice anything significant on either CPU or memory. Network work traffic (inbound plus outbound) should be in regions of 10 KB/sec per server.

Thanks,
Hi,

I want to know the polling frequency of Redgate monitor to the monitored databases. There are other enterprise monitoring tools which are in use and wanted to verify that the load is not too heavy. Thanks.

The only definite cause I was able to find was this one case where an external requester was DOSing the webserver. Some external IP was making many requests per second for phishing URLs. For example http://server/cgi-bin, http://server/phpbb, etc.
